Anna and The King
Since that I’m currently active downloading movies – I’m against piracy, though – I think I want to do some unprofessional review to all the movies that I watch. Last night, I watched Anna and The King, my all time favorite movie, starred by Jodi Foster as Anna and Chow Yun Fat as King Mongkut. I had this VCD last time but the quality was poor since it was a pirate VCD, hehee… The movie is based on Anna Leonowens (Leon Owens) diary. She was an educator in Singapore and accepts the offer by Siamese Royal request to teach the wives and children of King Mongkut, King of Siam.
The movie started with monolog of King Chulalongkorn, the eldest son of King Mongkut, about a fine English woman coming to Siam, alone and against all the odd in the world dominated by men. The scenery of old port with full of typical dockyard male workers makes Anna (Jodi Foster) stands out with her big white gown with funny little Englishwoman umbrella.
It’s about how a woman fight for her idea as well as her way of life and at the same time respecting other persons view, culture and accept men as the leader.
The movie was banned in Thailand as it portrayed their king wrongly, but I personally think that if the King Mongkut is the same as in that movie, then he is brave, intelligent forward thinking, passionate and hot king with cool hair style! Hehee..
By the way, the special of this movie is it’s full with Malaysian actors like Afdlin Shauki, Deanna Yusuf (she’s HOT!), Syed Alwi, Sean Ghazi, Harith Iskander, Zaibo and many more and they played a big role in this movie… WELL DONE
